Lamine Yamal has promised to 'come back stronger' after sustaining a season-ending hamstring injury. The Barcelona winger picked up the issue while scoring a penalty against Celta Vigo over the weekend.
Injury Confirmed by Barcelona
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick initially stated that Yamal would undergo further tests. Subsequently, the Spanish giants confirmed that the 18-year-old would miss the remainder of the campaign. A club statement read: 'Tests this Thursday have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. He will miss the remainder of the league season but is expected to be available for the World Cup.'
Yamal's Emotional Response
Yamal took to social media to express his disappointment and determination. He wrote: 'This injury leaves me off the field at the time I most wanted to be, and it hurts more than I can explain. It hurts not being able to fight with my teammates, not being able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know they're going to drop their souls in every game. I'll be there, even if it's from the outside, supporting, encouraging and pushing as one more. This is not the end, this is just a break. I'll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better. Thanks for the messages and Viva Barca.'
Support from Teammates
Yamal's Barcelona and Spain teammate Pedri expressed hope for a swift recovery. Speaking before the official update, Pedri said: 'We just hope that Yamal's injury is not significant. We still don't know and I imagine we will need to wait for the medical tests tomorrow, but I'm optimistic because he is young and should get back soon.'
World Cup Aspirations
The Spanish Football Federation will be hopeful that Yamal returns in time for the World Cup. The teenager has enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 24 goals and providing 18 assists in all competitions. He remains one of Spain's brightest prospects, having been in outstanding form during the last European Championship, where Spain defeated England to win the trophy. Yamal has made 25 appearances for his country since his debut in 2023, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists. Spain are drawn in Group H for this summer's tournament, alongside Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
