Scarlets star tipped for Wales as Pollock switches position

Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies has no doubt that Macs Page will be considered for Wales selection by Steve Tandy this autumn.

Page has made an impressive start to the season and scored a sensational individual try from 65 metres out during the Scarlets' loss to the Dragons at Rodney Parade last weekend. The 21-year-old toured with Wales to Japan last summer but has yet to win his first cap.

Davies backs Page for Wales call

"I think Steve will definitely be considering him," said Davies. "Somebody who sticks their hand up like that and has done what Macs has done has got to come into consideration. I've no doubt he'll be part of the debate."

Page started his career as a centre but Davies believes he is far more effective out on the wing. "I think he's still got the option to play centre but I think when we have him on the wing he's a bit freer to roam and pop up in places whereas when he's at centre he's got to be linked and connected in the midfield area," he said. "That can limit his ability to roam freely. I like him on the wing because of that."

"He's somebody who really excites me. He's probably the first name on the team sheet. He's one of those players that excites everybody but what we have to do as a team, and we've got a number of players like Macs, is create an environment where we give those guys more opportunities. But Macs has been great."

"He's a true pro and he's got the highest turnovers from any of our players so he's also effective in the wide channels defensively."

Prem clubs target All Blacks stars

All Blacks stars Beauden and Scott Barrett are reportedly on the radar of big-spending English clubs. Planet Rugby are reporting that Bristol Bears are in 'advanced talks' with both players while they also claim Newcastle Red Bulls are also interested.

Beauden Barrett is one of the finest utility-backs to have ever represented the All Blacks and has won 145 caps for his country. But he turns 36 next month and could be looking for a big pay-day in the Northern Hemisphere.

Dynamic second-row Scott is also reportedly talking to Pat Lam's side. The 32-year-old has won 89 caps for his country while both players are set to start for New Zealand in the first Bledisloe Cup Test match of the season at Auckland's Eden Park tomorrow.

Over the past few years the Gallagher Prem has lagged behind the Top 14 and Japanese clubs when it comes to signing the superstars of the game although each English club is permitted to sign one marquee player above the £6.4m salary cap.

Pollock makes positional switch

England star Henry Pollock is set for a positional switch for Northampton Saints' Gallagher Prem clash with Bath. The 21-year-old has started the season at No 8 but has been named at openside flanker for Saturday's game at Franklin's Gardens.

Pollock has made a strong start to the season making headlines for his new David Beckham-style cornrows hairstyle in Northampton's opening weekend victory over Newcastle Red Bulls. But he was brought back down to earth with a bang last Saturday as Northampton suffered a 41-26 hiding at the hands of Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate.

Pollock was taunted by Wales star Louis Rees-Zammit, who scored a brace of tries, by imitating the England backrower's pulse celebration.
