Trent Alexander-Arnold's lasting gift to Liverpool as return discussed

Trent Alexander-Arnold left boyhood club Liverpool in the summer of 2025 but is still having a major impact back in his home city. The England star is reportedly helping out in the city with several kids from his youth programmes making it to academies across the North West.

The versatile defender left Anfield to join Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer. The 27-year-old left after winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and the 2019 Champions League.

Exit divided fans

However, his exit divided Reds fans, with many feeling it was wrong for a local player like him to leave with the club in such a strong position to win more trophies. Liverpool also stood to lose their vice-captain for free once his contract expired on June 30 that summer.

But with the FIFA Club World Cup taking place soon after and Real competing, Los Blancos paid the Reds around £10million to release him early from his contract.

Community impact continues

Despite moving to the Spanish capital, Alexander-Arnold is still having a major impact in his home city. The popular 'TAA League' sessions, held across Merseyside, are free, with equipment such as football boots provided for those who might not be able to afford it.

Alexander-Arnold has funded the League since 2022, and it has expanded into more locations. The right back was a huge advocate of giving back to his community, and several of the youngsters who took part in sessions have received call-ups to the academies of Liverpool and Manchester City, among others.

Return speculation

Alexander-Arnold went on to struggle in his debut campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu and was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the recent World Cup. That has led to suggestions from former England boss Sam Allardyce that he could explore a return to Liverpool if he endures another poor campaign.

Speaking on Footy Accumulators' podcast, No Tippy Tappy Football, he said: "At 27, Trent still has years ahead of him.

"This is his prime. He’s at Real Madrid, and his experience there should stand him in good stead to be even better than he was when he left Liverpool, even though he hasn’t played as often as he would’ve liked.

"If he is going to be a Real Madrid player then this season he needs to be playing more than ever.

"If not, he should come back to the Premier League - Liverpool could do with him back. He’s capable of opening the opposition up."
