Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, saw his hopes of qualifying for the US Open dashed after missing the cut by a single stroke. Playing at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, Woods recorded an even-par 72, finishing one place outside the playoff for a spot in final qualifying.
The teenager, who has committed to Florida State University, was competing against experienced professionals and talented amateurs. Despite the disappointment, Woods improved on his previous two appearances at the venue, where he finished tied for 10th.
Woods currently ranks 14th on the Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings and is not due to begin higher education until September 2027. His father, a 15-time major winner, previously spoke about the recruitment process, noting how it has changed since his own youth, with cell phones and instant communication replacing letters.
Charlie Woods won his first AJGA title in May 2025 at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida. Since then, he has played eight tournaments, with his best result a tie for ninth at the Boys Junior PGA Championship. He has recorded two top-20 finishes in his last five events.
