The Ryder Cup opening ceremony has been rescheduled from Thursday to Wednesday due to forecasts of severe storms in New York. Organisers announced the change on Tuesday, moving the event to 4pm ET (9pm BST) at the Bethpage Black Course.
USA captain Keegan Bradley and European captain Luke Donald will not reveal their pairings for the first day of competition during the ceremony. Instead, the pairings will be announced at the traditional time on Thursday evening at 4pm ET (9pm BST).
Rain is expected to continue through Friday, when the three-day match play competition begins. US President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the opening day. General admission tickets will be honoured for both Wednesday and Thursday.
The build-up has been dominated by discussions about US players receiving payment for the first time. Each American player will receive a $200,000 stipend, with an additional $300,000 going to charity. European players have declined payment, citing tradition and honour.
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler confirmed he and his wife plan to donate their stipend to charities in Dallas. 'I've never been one to announce what we do,' Scheffler said. 'We have something planned for the money that we'll be receiving. I think it's a really cool thing that the PGA of America has empowered us to do.'
