O'Reilly sent home from England duty after training issue

Manchester City left-back Nico O'Reilly has returned to his club and will play no further part for England during the international break. The Football Association confirmed his departure after he picked up an issue in training.

O'Reilly played the full 90 minutes in last Saturday's Nations League opener against Spain, where a mistake in the build-up to the visitors' equaliser contributed to a 3-2 defeat at Wembley. He was then absent from Tuesday night's win in Czechia.

Return to Manchester City

England face Croatia on Saturday, but the versatile left-back will take no part. He has returned to Manchester City for "further assessment", the FA announced, while also confirming no call-ups will be made for the game in Rijeka or next Tuesday's clash with Czechia at Wembley.

An FA statement read: "Nico O'Reilly has returned to Manchester City and will play no part in the forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures."

"No further replacements are planned as the Three Lions prepare to face Croatia in Rijeka on Saturday before returning to Wembley to take on Czechia on Tuesday."

Club and squad implications

O'Reilly's absence could make him a doubt for City when they return to Premier League action at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday week, where a raucous atmosphere is expected following the news that City have been found guilty of the financial charges brought against them by the Premier League.

His departure gives Lewis Hall another chance to impress at left-back. The Newcastle defender played 90 minutes in Prague on Tuesday and looks set to retain the shirt for Saturday's behind-closed-doors game.
