Daniel Ricciardo has branded Lando Norris a "terrible" texter, revealing the McLaren driver loses interest in conversations and stops replying. Ricciardo, who raced alongside Norris at McLaren in 2021 and 2022, made the comments on the Box Box With Bella podcast.
Ricciardo's texting habits
When asked which driver he remains closest to, Ricciardo said he texts Max Verstappen most often, having formed a close bond during their time at Red Bull. He then called out Norris for his slow reply times and short attention span.
"Lando's a terrible text," Ricciardo said. "Yeah, I think he gets bored after a few texts and then just stops replying." About himself, he added: "I send so many voice notes. God damn it is it selfish, but I love it."
Life away from F1
Ricciardo, who left F1 after driving for Racing Bulls, has previously said he is enjoying life away from the track but has not ruled out a return. Speaking on the Speed Street podcast, he said: "I'm really enjoying not competing, where I currently sit, and just enjoying the small things in life and not having to kind of be on a stage and all that."
He added: "I think it's just going to be for the pure joy of driving, as opposed to... I don't need to hold a trophy in something. I don't need this for myself. Sometimes that can take the enjoyment out of racing."
Future prospects
Ricciardo acknowledged he does not know what the future holds, saying: "Do I know what I'll feel in three years, five years? No." He balanced his current contentment with the drive that competition brings, noting: "It's a balance because you want to have goals and that's obviously what gives you that purpose in the morning to wake up and push yourself and get in the gym and all that, but sometimes that can also rob it from some of the joy."
