Conor McGregor has issued a stark warning to Max Holloway ahead of their rematch at UFC 329 this weekend, vowing to 'contort' his opponent's body. The Irish fighter returns to the Octagon for the first time since he broke his leg in the first round of his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier five years ago.
McGregor's Return After Five-Year Absence
McGregor will face Holloway 13 years after their first meeting in Boston, where McGregor won by points in just his second UFC fight. Despite his lengthy absence, McGregor remains confident he can secure another victory. 'Max is a great dance partner, if you will,' McGregor said. 'He's a great opponent and he has a deep body of work inside the Octagon. He has fought many a man. It's a great opponent, great event, great fight week, great international fight week. I'm very, very happy here and very thankful. I plan to contort Max's body into such uncomfortable positions and have my way with him.'
Proving Doubters Wrong
Outside of his team, few give McGregor much chance of returning with a win. However, the former two-weight world champion dismissed the skepticism. 'There is nothing better than proving people wrong. People are entitled to their opinion and some are valid. There are some questions; the time out, injury, lifestyle. We're going to go in Saturday night and shut them all up again. You know, the business is on the rise and the money is coming in. So, get into this game, baby. We're rocking and rolling. The Mac is back. If I didn't have the fire or the hunger, yet I'm up against one of the most active bodies in the fight game in Max Holloway... I just think it's silly to say this.'
A Colossal Challenge
McGregor acknowledged the magnitude of the task ahead. 'The challenge is colossal. It is a colossal challenge ahead of me that I am entering with supreme confidence. It's magnificent; the fire is in my belly roaring, and it's about to be released on Saturday night.'
UFC 329: McGregor vs Holloway 2 will be broadcast exclusively live on TNT Sports Box Office via HBO Max, EE TV, Virgin Media TV, Prime Video, and Sky. For more information, visit tntsports.co.uk/boxoffice.
