Jeremy Jacquet is officially a Liverpool player after completing his £60million move from Rennes. The transfer was confirmed in January, and the French defender arrives at Anfield following the departure of Ibrahima Konate, who left on a free transfer to join Real Madrid.
Jacquet Inherits the No5 Shirt
With Konate's exit, the No5 shirt became available, and Jacquet, 21, will wear it this season. He follows in the footsteps of Konate, Georginio Wijnaldum (2016-2021), Daniel Agger, Milan Baros, Steve McManaman, Mark Wright, Alan Hansen, and Mark Lawrenson.
Jacquet's Background and Injury
Jacquet established himself as a regular starter at Rennes, making 21 appearances last season before a shoulder injury ended his campaign. He has five caps for France's Under-21 side but has not yet received a senior call-up.
Competition and New Era Under Iraola
At Liverpool, Jacquet will compete with Joe Gomez and returning Giovanni Leoni for a starting spot alongside Virgil van Dijk under new boss Andoni Iraola. Liverpool have already signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna this summer and remain active in the transfer market after securing fifth place and Champions League qualification.
