Keely Hodgkinson, Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson will represent Team GB at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham next month, following their decision to sit out the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Reigning Olympic champion Hodgkinson (800m) and Asher-Smith (100m) are aiming to retain their European crowns at Alexander Stadium from August 10 to 16. Johnson-Thompson, who missed the 2024 edition in Rome due to injury, returns to the heptathlon after securing silver at the Paris Olympics.
Amy Hunt and other stars join the squad
Amy Hunt, silver medallist in the 200m at last year's World Championships in Tokyo, will compete in both the 100m and 200m. The squad also includes 1500m duo Georgia Hunter Bell and Laura Muir, world champion Jake Wightman, and world indoor 400m champion Amber Anning.
GB & Northern Ireland performance director Paula Dunn said: "To compete at a major championship is always a tremendous achievement and it makes the occasion even more special with the event taking place on home soil at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium, a venue many of these athletes know well."
Dunn added: "This team reflects the strength and depth of talent we have across track and field, bringing together established international medallists alongside an exciting group of emerging athletes. I have every confidence that this team will rise to the occasion and represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland with great pride in Birmingham this summer."
Hudson-Smith and Kerr updates
Wolverhampton-born Matt Hudson-Smith, Olympic silver medallist in the 400m and four-time European champion, is expected to be a home favourite. However, Josh Kerr, who broke the mile world record in London earlier this month, has withdrawn. Dunn explained: "It is worth noting that the European Championships were never part of Josh Kerr's 2026 race programme, with his season being built around his successful world record attempt and representing Scotland in his home Commonwealth Games."
