Henderson Backed for Coaching Role After World Cup Injury

Anthony Barry believes that Jordan Henderson could transition into a coaching role under Thomas Tuchel when his playing career ends. The 36-year-old was part of England's squad for the World Cup in North America but has played only 12 minutes in the tournament. He broke his wrist on Monday morning after slipping while jumping over an advertising hoarding at the Estadio Azteca following England's 3-2 win over Mexico in the last 16. Henderson underwent surgery but is unlikely to feature again in the competition, instead watching from the sidelines.

Leadership Qualities Praised

Despite limited playing time, Henderson's leadership on and off the pitch was a key reason for his call-up. England assistant coach Anthony Barry highlighted these attributes, telling talkSPORT: "I see everything in Jordan. I'm so in awe of him as a player, a person and also maybe a future coach." Barry added: "He has it all, he's the full package, he's a serial winner as a player and an elite person off the pitch. And when it comes to football IQ, he can really hold court with anyone and the best of them."

Future Coaching Prospects

Barry suggested Henderson could eventually take his own role on the coaching staff. "The future is bright for Jordan, I'm sure. Maybe one day he takes my seat, kicks me off, and Thomas replaces me. But if I was to be replaced by Jordan, it would be a fantastic pick," Barry said.

England's Quarter-Final Preparations

England face Norway in the quarter-finals at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Saturday evening, with kick-off at 10pm BST. The team will be without Jarell Quansah, who received a red card against Mexico and serves a two-match suspension, ruling him out until the final if England advance. Reece James is expected to be fit after recovering from a hamstring injury, and Djed Spence is also available. Marc Guehi is a doubt after picking up a hamstring injury against Mexico and missing training sessions this week.
