Scottie Scheffler Misses First Cut in Four Years at Scottish Open

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open, ending a remarkable four-year streak of making cuts. The 30-year-old American posted rounds of two-under and two-over par at The Renaissance Club, but a bogey on the par-3 ninth hole dropped him below the projected cut line of two-under par.

Scheffler's Reaction to Early Exit

Speaking via Golf Channel, Scheffler said: "The eighth hole, I hit the fairway and I'm in a divot, and then the ninth hole, felt pretty solid - just dies. Overall, just not quite good enough." The last time Scheffler missed a cut was at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, 78 events and 1,428 days ago.

Consistent Season Despite Setback

Scheffler has maintained an impressively consistent season, with a win at The American Express, two T3s, and four T2s. He added: "I'm definitely proud of the consistency and wish I had a couple days over the weekend to make up some ground."

Looking Ahead to The Open Championship

Having fallen at the cut, Scheffler now has additional time to prepare for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, which begins next Thursday. He is pursuing his first major victory since May 2025, having finished runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Masters, T14 at the PGA Championship, and T4 at the US Open. The US Open remains the only major title that has eluded him.

Scheffler reflected on his struggles at the Scottish Open: "It's funny. Last year, I feel like I got really frustrated on this golf course playing some good golf and just not really able to get anything going as well. You know, then I went and played well at The Open Championship. [This tournament is] suiting me well over the years, but like I said, I haven't played well here but I've played pretty well at The Open. So it's always a balancing - it could be one of those things where you just get over jet lag, get used to new style of golf, new types of grasses, and maybe I just haven't adjusted as quick, or maybe this golf course just doesn't suit my eye much."
