Steve Jones has issued each-way selections for Saturday's racing, with Glory Hyde recommended in the William Hill Supporting MND Silver Cup at Ripon and Kodiac Thriller fancied in the feature Great St Wilfrid Handicap.
Glory Hyde for the Silver Cup
Glory Hyde (2.55) is the pick in the Silver Cup, with course form considered crucial on Ripon's undulating sprint track. The filly has shown a distinct liking for the Yorkshire course, having landed back-to-back victories over today's course and distance in June, overcoming traffic problems on the latter occasion.
Her two subsequent runs have not been as good, but there have been valid excuses for the below-par performances. She didn't have the best of draws for either start – both at York – and that course doesn't really play to her strengths. Her stands' side stall for today's race should be much more of a help, and she has a decent amount of gears.
Kodiac Thriller in the Great St Wilfrid
The likely strong pace will suit Glory Hyde perfectly, and she looks overpriced returned to her favourite venue. Jones suggests 1pt each-way at 14-1, with Sky Bet paying out on six places.
In the William Hill/MND Association Great St Wilfrid Handicap, Kodiac Thriller (3.25) has strong claims. He has been rejuvenated by a visor in his last couple of starts. His fourth over 5f at Ripon was a good effort as he stumbled coming out of the stalls and then ran into trouble when attempting to get back into the race.
He went on to land the Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe over 5f at York, and it's not hard to argue he's even better over today's 6f distance as he showed when runner-up in this race 12 months ago. That was a cracking run at a course he likes, and it was even better than the bare form as the winner raced on the other side of the track from Mark Walford's speedster.
Ziggy's Triton at Newbury
In four visits to Ripon, Kodiac Thriller hasn't finished out of the first four, and victory over today's course and distance in April was right up there with his best form. Jones suggests 1pt each-way at 17-2, with Sky Bet offering five places.
At Newbury, Ziggy's Triton (1.55) is the best bet on the card. He landed a competitive York handicap in July and wasn't disgraced in a hot 5f sprint at Glorious Goodwood last month. His progressive profile offers plenty of hope, and he still looks feasibly handicapped. With his trainer David O'Meara starting to hit top form, he is worth backing at 16-1. Jones suggests 1pt each-way with most firms going four places.
