Football fans in the North East have a unique opportunity to watch England vs Ghana alongside two Newcastle United legends, Les Ferdinand and Chris Waddle. To join them, supporters simply need to bring a bag of Walkers crisps and find the former players in Newcastle city centre on Tuesday.
The Hunt for the Legends
Walkers Crisps has brought its popular challenge to the region. The location of Les and Chris will be revealed to a lucky winner today, giving them just hours to reach the secret spot and enjoy the World Cup game with the two former England internationals. Invitations to join the hunt were issued this morning, with fans asked to watch SPORF’s Instagram and TikTok pages for a post and send a direct message. The winning fan will receive the location pin and must arrive with the iconic crisps in hand.
What the Legends Said
Les Ferdinand said: “I’m overjoyed to be back in the city which became such a defining part of my life. The Geordie faithful backed me all the way, and now I’ll back them as we celebrate England's second game with a bag of Walkers in hand too.” Chris Waddle added: “It’s so good to be back in Tyneside, and what better way to spend it than watching the game with the fans who supported me through such a monumental stage of my life. Just don’t forget the Walkers, and it better be prawn cocktail.”
Campaign Details
The two NUFC greats are part of Walkers' 'No Walkers, No Game' campaign, which has also featured Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Alexia Putellas, Thierry Henry, and Steve Carrell surprising fans during the tournament. Wayne Newton, Senior Marketing Director for Walkers, said: “Newcastle is one of the most passionate football cities in the world, and the connection those fans have with Les Ferdinand and Chris Waddle goes back to a truly special era of football. Walkers is over the moon to bring loyal fans together with football legends who gave everything to this city, and what better way to celebrate than sharing a pack of Walkers. No Walkers, No Game.”
