Conor McGregor Makes UFC Plea Days Before Max Holloway Fight
Conor McGregor UFC Plea Before Holloway Fight

Conor McGregor has expressed a desire to compete twice in 2026, starting with his return against Max Holloway at UFC 329 this weekend, even though his contract stipulates a second fight in April 2027. The 37-year-old Irishman will end a five-year hiatus on Saturday night when he faces former featherweight champion Max Holloway in a welterweight bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Five-Year Hiatus and Comeback

McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg in a first-round defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His last victory came a year prior, a 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone in January 2020. Despite the leg break, McGregor was scheduled to return two years ago against Michael Chandler but withdrew due to injury. Many doubted whether the Irishman would ever fight again, but his comeback was announced earlier this year, surprising the MMA world.

Contract and Future Plans

McGregor has two fights remaining on his UFC contract. He told TNT Sports: 'Yes (I would like my second fight this year). I wish for it this year. Now, I have said my peace (with the UFC) and they have said their peace, and let's just get through this one and I am fine with that.' When asked about a potential opponent, he replied: 'Anyone, to be honest. Not particularly, no.'

Last month, McGregor revealed to Uncrowned that his contract includes a second fight date in April 2027. 'I have both dates for my fights. I have July 11, and when would you think they put me back in? April 2027. It's almost a year later. That's ridiculous to me. But this is the way the contract was done. I have a second date in April 2027,' he said.

Focus on Holloway

Despite contractual constraints, McGregor is solely focused on the task at hand. Training footage has shown glimpses of his form, leading many to believe he can produce a stunning upset. He views a win over Holloway as the greatest comeback in UFC history. 'Yes, by far,' he said. 'Holloway's body of work inside the octagon is highly impressive, and he has fought so many men. And to come back and do what I am going to do, it's going to be glorious. It's going to be absolutely sensational. I am excited for it.' He added: 'You are going to see a master at work. The Mac is back!'

UFC 329 Main Event

McGregor vs Holloway 2 headlines UFC 329, with the Irishman aiming to roll back the years and secure a victory that would silence critics. Holloway, a former featherweight champion known for his durability and volume striking, presents a significant challenge. The bout is scheduled for five rounds in the welterweight division.
