Conor McGregor could be set for a stunning Croke Park homecoming for his bare-knuckle boxing debut, according to BKFC supremo David Feldman. McGregor, a part-owner of BKFC, has one fight left on his current UFC deal and has previously expressed interest in making the switch to bare-knuckle boxing.
Feldman plots Dublin showcase
Feldman is plotting to stage a monumental showcase at the iconic Dublin venue, with the 'Notorious' topping the bill. Revealing to Mirror Fighting, Feldman said: “Conor [McGregor] has one fight left with the UFC and then let’s see what happens but I would love to do Conor in his first BKFC fight at Croke park in front of 83,000!”
BKFC are no strangers to groundbreaking shows, having recently staged a showcase at Fenway Park, Boston. Feldman's comments come just days after Katie Taylor's historic retirement fight at Croke Park, where the 40-year-old outclassed Flora Pili on Saturday night to become a three-time undisputed champion.
McGregor's comeback and recovery
The 38-year-old ended a five-year hiatus at UFC 329 back in July when he took on Max Holloway, but his comeback ended in defeat after he injured his knee just seconds into the contest in Las Vegas. McGregor later revealed he tore his ACL in the rematch, and faces a year out of the cage, but has vowed to return to action following surgery.
McGregor's UFC future remains up in the air. The Dubliner could be tempted with a fight under the BKFC banner before he calls time on his career.
Taylor retirement debate
McGregor was not in attendance at GAA's sold-out arena this past weekend, but was eager to share his views after the event. He said he felt Taylor, who placed her boxing gloves and belts in the centre of the ring following the victory against Pili, should have one more fight and postpone her retirement.
He wrote: "Fantastic scenes in Croke Park, Ireland for Katie Taylor’s most recent fight! She looked better than ever! Younger, fresher, renewed like the eagles! ALL HAIL KING JESUS! #GoAgainKatie #OneMoreTune #RetirementPostponed #JesusReigns." He later added: "Katie Taylor, let's do ONE MORE FOR THE MAC Well done champ!" He uploaded another post reading "McGregor Taylor Muhammad Ali," referring to the fact that Ali once fought at the venue - a TKO victory over Alvin Lewis back in 1972.
McGregor's post did not go down well with some Irish boxing supporters. "She's everything your not - humble, a role model, carries herself with class," one fan said on X. "A who's who of Irish culture and history last night and you couldn't show your face. That should be your lesson," a second wrote. A third put: "You know it is Fighters like you and the Likes of @Tyson_Fury who make a mockery of retirement! No! @KatieTaylor do not have 1 More fight! you have done all you can.. Do not listen to these bums who tell you to have 1 more! When was the last time Conor won a fight? #NoMore." "A lot of differences between you and Katie she earned the respect in Ireland and then conquered the world," a fourth said. "Don’t think I have ever seen her trying to steal the limelight, which you are trying to do now."
