Bruno Guimaraes has revealed that Mikel Arteta is "very obsessed" with making Arsenal the great entertainers this season, aiming to build on their title-winning campaign with even more attractive football.
The new signing says Arteta has been drilling into his players the need to improve on last season's strengths, which saw the Gunners win their first title in 22 years despite a reputation for relying on set-pieces and physical dominance.
Guimaraes praises team's improvement
Speaking after Arsenal's 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday, the Brazil midfielder said: "It's great to be able to work with such a strong team. There's something impressive about this team."
"They're strong physically, strong in defence, strong in attack. It seems that this season they're playing better than last season. I think that's the goal, to improve every year," Guimaraes added.
"That's the message that Arteta wants to pass on to us. I think that since the first time I talked to him, he's very obsessed with these things, he's always improving. We can see that our team is playing very well. It's just the beginning, there's a lot to come, but so far, congratulations to everyone."
Arteta sees higher ceiling
Arteta himself alluded to Arsenal's potential for more after the win, which came courtesy of goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard.
"I thought it was an exceptional performance," said the Arsenal manager. "I enjoyed every minute from beginning to end. The beginning was tough, but I enjoyed it because the team reacted in a spectacular way. The conviction, determination, quality and intent we showed to help them constantly - it was beautiful."
"It was a fascinating game I think for the spectator as well, and I think we deserved to win the game which I'm really pleased with, obviously," he continued.
"I think it's an indication for us that we're capable of performing even higher than we did last season. It depends on whether we maintain that desire, that humility, and continue every day to find a greater version of myself and the team. We still have a lot to grow and a lot to offer, and that's the ambition of the team."
