Chelsea are in talks to secure the long-term future of academy striker Shim Mheuka, with a new contract under discussion. The 18-year-old’s current deal runs until 2027, but Standard Sport understands the Blues are working to tie him down before sending him out on loan for regular first-team football during the 2026-27 season.
Contract Negotiations and Loan Plans
It is believed that Mheuka is close to agreeing to the new terms proposed by Chelsea. A loan move is likely for the upcoming season, with EFL clubs and some European sides having registered their interest. The striker is highly regarded at Cobham and won the Premier League 2 player of the season award in 2025/26 for his prolific goalscoring for Chelsea’s Under-21s.
Academy Success and First-Team Impact
Mheuka led Chelsea’s academy side to the league title, scoring 18 goals in 19 appearances. After receiving the award, he said: “It has been a great season for me and I’m very proud to receive this award. I’ve worked hard throughout the year and I’m grateful to my family, the staff and my team-mates for all of their support.”
He has made nine appearances for Chelsea’s first team since his debut in a UEFA Conference League match against Astana in December 2024. The Birmingham-born forward is also a regular in England’s youth ranks, with 16 goals in 23 appearances for the U19 side.
Background and Development
Mheuka began his football career at Brighton’s academy at age nine, where his younger brother Tendah still plays, before moving to Chelsea at 15. His rapid progression through the ranks highlights Chelsea’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
