Celtic fans are convinced their club has left Rangers in the shade after a busy transfer window, while Gers supporters are growing concerned about the direction under new ownership following a winless start to the domestic season.
Celtic fans buoyed by signings
David Beattie, Rothesay, said: “Finally Celtic are getting there act together with these quality acquisitions like Haissem Hassan. It mustn't stop. Gvidas Gineitis would be a steal at anything less than £15 million as not only would he be the anchor we need in midfield it will free up Calum McGregor to push forward where he would be best suited for creating. But, more importantly, he would be our future captain. Celtic have finally turned the corner, let's really make the statement that the fans have asked for for years.”
Charles Maxwell emailed: “It's great to see the £9m attacking speed machine Hassan eventually put pen to paper at Parkhead. Because Rangers are running out of dosh, they’ve made a loan application for one of their old flops Jayden Meghoma. It looks like Rangers are still buying old diesels while Celtic have gone all electric I'm loving living in the future.”
But Stephen Mulhern, via email, said: “I believe Camilo Duran will be thrilled more than anyone that we have secured the signing of flying winger Hassan. I witnessed his body language when substituted at Rugby Park and I interpreted that of someone who thought he would have had a hat-trick if he was in his preferred position. I’m looking forward for him and Kasper Hogh developing a Larsson/Sutton type combination in the future.”
Rangers fans worried
Gers fans are feeling a sense of doom and gloom right now after a winless start to the domestic season.
Cooper Steven, Kent, said: “I was truly excited by the 49ers takeover, but I’m increasingly concerned that the people currently in charge have absolutely no clue what they are doing.
“They might know about big business, but they clearly have very little knowledge of how to run a successful football club like Rangers, and they seem to have limited people to call upon who can properly advise them about the type and skill level of players, and management required, and how to acquire them.
“The whole process just appears to be scattergun. We’ve signed all these new players, but we are going backwards. I don’t blame Derek McInnes at all, because I’m not convinced how much say he really has over what is happening. I really hope I am proved wildly wrong, but at present the outlook is bleak not blue.”
Paul Price, Glasgow, said: “There is no getting away from it, Rangers are spending bucket loads on players. I just wonder is Derek McWinless feeling overwhelmed by the numbers? How much time will it take before he knows his strongest starting XI and will they be worthy of winning trophies? Time will tell, but I don't think he will be given that luxury should results not start going their way.”
Neil Renton, Leith, said: “It’s all very well Rangers boss Derek McInnes saying he got the job for a reason. The Ibrox club felt he could go one further than he did at Hearts and win the league at Celtic’s expense. It’s a completely different set up in Glasgow where you’re expected to win every game you play. McInnes should be asked if he can be freed from his contract so he can get the Scotland manager job.”
