Xavi Eyes Chelsea Job After Rosenior Sacking

Xavi has emerged as a potential candidate for the Chelsea managerial vacancy following the sacking of Liam Rosenior on Wednesday. The Barcelona legend has previously expressed his desire to manage in the Premier League, stating he would love the opportunity to work in English football.

Rosenior was dismissed after just three months in charge, having overseen a run of five consecutive league defeats without scoring. The club's worst period without wins and goals since 1912 led to his departure, with Chelsea currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table.

Speaking to The Athletic earlier this year, Xavi said: 'I'd love to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there. In Spain, it's too much about the result.' The 46-year-old cited Mikel Arteta's long-term project at Arsenal as an example he admires, noting that Arteta was given time to build despite difficult seasons.

Xavi, who won La Liga as both player and manager with Barcelona, is open to a return to management but is not in a hurry. He emphasised the importance of a good project with a four-year plan. Other names linked with the Stamford Bridge role include Cesc Fabregas, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva.

Calum McFarlane will take interim charge for the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United. Chelsea stated they will 'undertake a process of self-reflection' in their search for a new manager, aiming to achieve European qualification and progress in the cup.
