Former England manager Fabio Capello made an awkward gaffe at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, referring to Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman as 'Sabrina' while presenting her with the Johan Cruyff award for best women's coach of the year.
Wiegman, who led England to a second consecutive Women's European Championship title this summer, chose not to address the error in her acceptance speech. Instead, she thanked her players, staff, the FA, and her family, and spoke about the growth of the women's game.
She also called for continued efforts against misogyny and racism, saying: 'Sport should always unite and never divide.' The award is named after Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff, whom Wiegman praised for his belief in the power of sport and inclusivity.
Capello's tenure as England manager was less successful; his only major tournament was the 2010 World Cup, where England lost to Germany in the last 16. In contrast, Wiegman is widely regarded as one of the finest managers to lead an England side.
Another Lioness, Hannah Hampton, also won an award at the ceremony, claiming the women's Yashin Trophy for the world's best goalkeeper.
