Benjamin Sesko’s stoppage-time equaliser rescued a point for Manchester United as they drew 1-1 with West Ham at the London Stadium. The result extends United’s unbeaten run but ends their five-match winning streak, while West Ham remain in 18th place after dropping two precious points.
Tomas Soucek had given the hosts a deserved lead, converting a low cross from Jarrod Bowen. West Ham dominated much of the contest, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Crysencio Summerville causing problems. Summerville nearly scored his sixth goal in six games, and Wan-Bissaka cleared a Luke Shaw shot off the line.
United lacked energy for long periods, but manager Michael Carrick introduced Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee in search of a goal. Deep into added time, Bryan Mbeumo’s cross found Sesko, who flicked the ball past goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to level the scores.
“We were not quite at our best and you have to credit West Ham,” Carrick said. “The boys are frustrated, which is a good sign. You’ve got to find answers and find a way.” West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo expressed disappointment but praised his side’s performance: “The way we started the second half was very positive. Overall it was a very positive performance.”
United remain fourth, while West Ham stay 18th. Carrick’s unbeaten record as interim manager continues, but questions persist about how to integrate the team’s attacking talent effectively.
