Morecambe Football Club faces an uncertain future, with the 105-year-old club on the brink of extinction after failing to meet financial obligations. The National League has suspended the club's membership, and their first three fixtures of the season have been postponed. A meeting on August 20 will determine whether the club can retain its place in the competition.
Fans are pleading with local hero Tyson Fury to step in and rescue the club. The heavyweight boxer, who lives in Morecambe with his wife and seven children, previously expressed interest in buying the club three years ago. He told talkSPORT: 'I’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club... I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym. So who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner.'
Despite his earlier enthusiasm, Fury has remained silent as the club's crisis deepens. Former talkSPORT host Simon Jordan has called on Fury to act, saying: 'Let’s call him out. Tyson Fury, the most prominent resident of Morecambe... Here’s an opportunity, Tyson. Put your hand in your pocket. You’ve got £170m in assets, buy your football club. Do something for somebody else besides yourself.'
Fury's net worth is estimated at £130 million, and he is set for a lucrative trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk in April 2026. However, he recently claimed he will 'never' fight again, telling Sky Sports: 'Too old, look at my beard, all grey. Boxing's a young man's game.'
With the club's fate hanging in the balance, supporters are left wondering whether Fury will finally step up to save his hometown team.
