Community Mourns Loss of Young Gaelic Football Talent
The tight-knit community of Poyntzpass, County Armagh, is united in grief following the tragic passing of Padraig Rafferty, a beloved schoolboy and promising Gaelic football star. Padraig, a popular pupil at St Joseph & St James' Primary School, sadly lost his long and courageous battle with a brain tumour this week, a diagnosis he received in 2023.

The local community has rallied around his father John, mother Lorraine, and sisters Grace and Niamh, offering comfort during this profoundly difficult time.
Padraig was remembered as a young athlete who brought immense joy and dedication to the football pitch. He played at underage level for the Gaelic football team Redmond O'Hanlon's GAC, where he was known for his spirited performance and pride in wearing the club jersey.
