Nicola Walker Stars in Messy New Disney+ Series Alice and Steve

Disney+ has unveiled the debut trailer for its latest series, Alice and Steve, starring Nicola Walker, best known for her role in Unforgotten, alongside Jemaine Clement. Created by Sophie Goodheart of Sex Education fame, the programme has been branded 'the ultimate wrong-com'.

Plot Overview

The six-episode series charts Alice's devastation when her closest friend Steve begins a romance with her 26-year-old daughter Izzy, leaving her terrified of losing both her dearest friend and her child. Though she attempts everything possible to sabotage their coupling, Steve anticipates her moves, transforming their once-perfect bond into bitter warfare.

The official description hints: 'A hilarious, messy, and complicated exploration of friendship, family, and love, Alice and Steve is an anti-romantic comedy that asks the question, how far would you go for love - or revenge?'

'Will Alice forgive Steve? Will Steve and Izzy make a relationship work? Amongst all the questions hanging in the balance, one thing is certain; their lives will never be the same again.'

Trailer Highlights

The trailer begins with Alice telling Steve, 'you deserve to be loved, anybody would be lucky to have you,' before realising who he finds, when her daughter falls for Steve after he spends the night on their sofa. It then shows Nicola's character telling Jemaine's: 'I hope you fall out of your window and get pierced in the heart by your railing and that no one comes to your funeral.'

'A best friend doesn't sleep with a friend's daughter,' she then tells her daughter.

Cast and Reception

The series also stars Yali Topol Margalith as Alice's daughter Izzy, as well as Joel Friel as Alice's husband Daniel. Fans have already hailed the series as 'epic' after watching the trailer, with one writing: 'well this looks like a RIOT!!!' 'I'm so excited!!!! Aaaah,' another said, while a third wrote: 'This looks gooood!'

Nicola previously spoke about the new show, telling Variety of the plot: 'It seems like a great crime, but it's a show about love. It's also about revenge, betrayal and bad behavior.' She went on: 'What's remarkable about the series is that you start by assuming that you could never side with Steve or Izzy. But then you swap allegiances. These people are falling in love, they are sort of perfect for each other, and then Alice becomes the problem. They all end up really, really hurting each other, which seems very much like real life to me.'

'You know, I often don't believe the way mothers, husband, wives or friends are portrayed on TV. But I read this and went: 'I understand these people'.'

Alice and Steve will be available on Disney+ from Monday, June 8.
