Bazoumana Toure scored in stoppage time during Ivory Coast's 2-0 win over Somalia, delivering another reminder of his goalscoring ability for Newcastle United. The £43million summer signing from Hoffenheim converted from close range after Yan Diomande's shot came back off the post.
International form continues
The goal was Toure's third for his country, with the 20-year-old showing maturity beyond his years. It came in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series, with the forward following up to make no mistake from close range.
Positive reports are certain to land on Matthias Jaissle's desk, with the German head coach keeping a close eye on the three-week international break.
Limited chances at Newcastle
Toure has scored twice for Newcastle so far despite limited opportunities. He found the net against both West Brom in the Carabao Cup and away to Leeds United, where his goal was a consolation.
The forward has not started a Premier League game yet for Newcastle, sparking debate with Jaissle and the Press pack. He faces competition on the left from Harvey Barnes and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Jaissle's stance on young signings
Jaissle said earlier this month: "Bazou, it's really clear, he's a young lad, came as a new signing and he's doing a great job. You see the steps now in training, he's really committed.
"It's sometimes in football that if you have other players performing as well on a really high level, like Harvey at the moment, then you're getting a little bit less playing time. But we said that from the beginning, especially for the young lads and the new signings that we give them time.
"It's the same with Aladji Bamba for instance. We're not pushing, especially not externally, pushing them in getting more minutes. It's normal progress and we're supporting them to getting there."
What's next for Toure
Ivory Coast have one game left of the international break, a friendly against Cameroon at home on Saturday. After that, Toure will rejoin Newcastle for their next game away to Coventry City, with eight days to prepare for the clash with the newly promoted side.
