Tottenham player ratings: Double Dutch defence shines in Chelsea win
Tottenham ratings: Dutch duo key in Chelsea win

Tottenham secured their first win at Stamford Bridge since 2018 as Mike Penders' own goal saw them beat 10-man Chelsea 1-0 in a fiery contest in west London.

Chelsea and Tottenham is always a game played on the edge and this affair was not short of drama as Spurs held their nerve to secure back-to-back Premier League wins after Penders inexplicably punched the ball into his own net in the 77th minute before Cole Palmer was given a second yellow card for a stamp on Conor Gallagher.

Historic Victory Sealed by Tel

Mathys Tel wrapped up the three points on an historic night for Spurs as he rolled the ball past Penders on the edge of the box. Sam Tabuteau was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Tottenham players.

Defensive Duo Impress

Jan Paul van Hecke earned a 9/10 rating for being alert to everything Chelsea threw at him, throwing his body in front of shots and keeping pace with runners, winning eight of his nine aerial duels. Micky van de Ven also scored 9/10, keeping his cool as the game exploded into life with a flurry of hefty challenges; he did not commit a single foul on a night when both sides traded 26 fouls between them.

Antonin Kinsky was rated 5/10 after some shaky moments with the ball at his feet, but made up for it with a string of excellent saves to deny Palmer and Henderson. Archie Gray earned 7/10 for keeping Premier League debutant Geovany Quenda very quiet in a disciplined performance at right-back.

Midfield and Attack Ratings

Sandro Tonali scored 8/10 for his physical, tidy and authoritative display, while Mateus Fernandes also got 8/10 for giving Spurs rhythm in the middle of the park, living up to his £85million price tag. Mohammed Kudus was rated 6/10 after bending a shot narrowly wide but offering little else.

James Maddison scored 8/10 for pulling the strings, constantly in space and playing his way through Chelsea's midfield, though he was withdrawn early in the second half after going down off the ball. Omar Marmoush was rated 5/10 after spurning a wonderful opportunity from just outside the six-yard box.

Among the substitutes, Conor Gallagher was booed as he came on and picked up a booking for hauling back Rogers, but was the victim of the stamp from Palmer that turned the game completely in Tottenham's favour. Pedro Porro was only fit enough for the bench, Dominic Solanke did not impact the game as much as he would have hoped, and Dejan Kulusevski's appearance was the cherry on top as he works his way back to full fitness.
