Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, recording their first win at the ground in 36 years. Roberto De Zerbi's side made it back-to-back Premier League wins, moving up to 12th in the table.
The first half was a subdued affair, with Tottenham failing to create much. Omar Marmoush had the visitors' best chance, but his tame strike was easily saved. Mathys Tel saw a driven effort saved, while Sandro Tonali flashed an effort over the crossbar.
Second-Half Breakthrough
Chelsea started the second half brighter, with Pedro Neto firing a shot straight at goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The opening goal came against the run of play, from an inswinging corner delivered by Mateus Fernandes. Jan Paul van Hecke was alive to the cross and put a challenge on the Chelsea goalkeeper, which ultimately led to the goal.
Spurs' task became easier when Cole Palmer was sent off for a second bookable offence. The points were secured late on when Tel netted a stunning solo goal, picking the ball up in his own half, driving forward and squeezing home from the edge of the box.
Player Ratings
Antonin Kinsky - 6: Made a couple of comfortable saves on either side of half-time. A much quieter night than he probably imagined.
Archie Gray - 6: Battled hard and was asked to chip in at right-back and left-back.
Micky van de Ven - 6: Wasn't really tested by Chelsea's attackers while it was 11v11, and looked comfortable throughout.
Jan Paul van Hecke - 6: Was alive to the cross and put a challenge on the Chelsea goalkeeper, which led to the opening goal. Had a comfortable evening.
Andy Robertson - 6: Was up and down the left-hand side and gave as good as he got. Ran out of steam in the second half.
Sandro Tonali - 6: Better than his earlier showings this season, but still failed to properly impact the match.
Mateus Fernandes - 7: One of his better performances in a Spurs shirt. Starting to show why Tottenham were so keen to bring him to the club. Put in the cross for the corner that led to the goal.
James Maddison - 6: Can't catch a break. So good in the Monday night win over Coventry, but wasn't able to play more than 50 minutes in the west London rain.
Mathys Tel - 8: Might've done more with an effort in the first half, but made no mistake with a stunning solo goal late on.
Omar Marmoush - 5: Marked down because he had a golden opportunity to net the opening goal. Nowhere near clinical enough.
Mohammed Kudus - 8: Probably the best Tottenham player on the pitch. What a miss he's been during his extended absence.
Substitutes
Conor Gallagher - 6: An enforced change but gave the Chelsea midfield something to think about.
Pedro Porro - 6: Unusually wasteful with his crosses but otherwise solid.
Dominic Solanke - 6: Stretched the Chelsea defence more than Marmoush following the second-half substitution.
Ben Davies - N/A: A late change.
