Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge; Palmer sent off

Tottenham secured a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, their first league win at the ground since 2018. Cole Palmer was sent off late in the game after receiving two bookings within a few minutes.

Own goal proves decisive

The breakthrough came from an own goal by goalkeeper Mike Penders. The young Belgian, deputising for the injured Emi Martínez, was at fault when he flapped at a corner from Mateus Fernandes and punched the ball into his own net.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi cut a tense figure in his technical area throughout the match, reacting with frustration to events on the pitch. The win marked Tottenham's second consecutive league victory.

Chelsea's struggles

Xabi Alonso, whose side lost at home for the first time this season, could argue there was an element of fortune to the result. Chelsea were caught out at both ends, with Penders' inexperience proving costly and the team struggling without João Pedro leading the line. Alonso's decision not to start Danny Welbeck was also notable.

Palmer saw red shortly after the own goal, and Mathys Tel soon made it 2-0 to seal the win and lift Tottenham into 12th place.
