Thomas Frank oversaw training at Tottenham on Sunday, maintaining a business-as-usual front ahead of Tuesday's Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund, despite uncertainty over his future. The manager's position is in jeopardy after Spurs' 2-1 home defeat to West Ham on Saturday, when fans called for him to be sacked. The result left Tottenham 14th in the Premier League, with only two wins in their last 13 league games.
Spurs remain alive in the Champions League, with a good chance of progressing to the knockout phase. However, the club expects empty seats for the visit of Dortmund. The board has been reluctant to dismiss Frank, mindful of the challenges he has faced during a transitional season.
Former Ajax manager John Heitinga has joined Frank's staff to replace assistant Matt Wells, who left before Christmas. Heitinga led Sunday's training session, with Frank in his normal overseeing role. Frank said he drove Heitinga's appointment, despite suggestions the Dutchman could replace him on a caretaker basis if the board decides to make a change.
Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham wrote an open letter to supporters before the West Ham game, calling for patience. But the mood turned toxic when West Ham substitute Callum Wilson scored a stoppage-time winner, sparking booing from the home crowd. Fans also jeered when Frank substituted winger Mathys Tel. The sustained booing at the final whistle has left the board with a decision to make.
