Strictly Come Dancing fans have predicted that Shaun Wright-Phillips could be the first celebrity eliminated from this year's series, following the announcement of his Movie Week routine. The former footballer will perform a Salsa to You Should Be Dancing from the film Saturday Night Fever, a choice that has sparked fury among viewers on social media.
The upcoming Movie Week show, airing on Saturday October 3, will see all 15 celebrities take to the dancefloor again. Their scores from week one and week two will be combined, meaning those currently at the bottom of the leaderboard face a tough challenge to climb the rankings.
Joint-bottom leaderboard
After the first live show, Sarah Storey, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Melanie Walters are joint bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 15. In contrast, social media star John Nellis impressed the judges, earning a score of 31 and topping the rankings.
Strictly has been revealing the Movie Week routines on its official Instagram account. Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu will perform a Pasa Doble to No Good Deed from Wicked: For Good, while Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu will tackle a Cha Cha to Pretty Women.
Fans react to Shaun's routine
On Reddit, fans shared their thoughts on Shaun's Salsa routine, with many believing it could mark the end of his time in the competition. One person said: "Oh no, Shaun :( Not looking good." Another added: "Yeah, I think it may be over, Shaun…. I was thinking he'd get a ballroom dance or American Smooth, but I guess not…"
Someone else wrote: "Yeah, Shaun's going, another Latin after that Cha Cha Cha." A fourth commented: "It's curtains for Shaun." Whilst another person said: "I've said previously that I think Shaun will go first, but that's just a stitch up."
However, one person shared their belief in Shaun as they added: "Oof, tough for Shaun, but I believe in him (and Alexis)!!!" As someone else commented: "I already know I'm putting all my votes on Shaun, I'm not ready to say bye to him yet :( I want his journey arc."
New presenters and Katya's praise
Viewers will have to wait to find out what score Shaun will get for his Salsa routine during the upcoming show on Saturday. As the series is officially in full swing, people welcomed Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe as the new presenters of the show.
While some viewers aren't thrilled with the new dynamic, professional dancer Katya had nothing but praise when speaking about Johannes speaking to them after their performances. On Good Morning Britain, she said: "As a dancer, standing there and talking to Johannes, someone who has done it himself, he really empathises with us. It's really comforting, and that's a really good shout having him just after the stressful moment of doing the dance and receiving the scores to come back and go, 'You know what it's like'. I think that's really comforting to have upstairs as a professional dancer."
