Steve Davis Praises BBC Snooker Pundits Ahead of World Championship

Six-time world champion Steve Davis has shared his thoughts on his fellow BBC pundits ahead of the World Snooker Championship, which begins on Saturday at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Davis, who will be part of the BBC's coverage alongside Stephen Hendry, praised the expertise and character of his colleagues.

Davis highlighted John Parrott's encyclopaedic knowledge, calling him an "absolute force of nature" with a photographic memory for results and stats. He also commended Stephen Hendry for his candid commentary, likening him to the "Andy Gray of snooker" for his no-nonsense analysis and praise of attacking play.

Regarding Dennis Taylor, Davis described him as "the best line drawer on the telestrator on the planet" and a legend of the commentary box. He noted that Taylor's enjoyment of the game ensures there is never a dull moment. Ken Doherty was praised for his positive thinking and high-level playing knowledge, while Hazel Irvine was hailed as a "legend" and "demigod" for her flawless, memory-based presenting.

Davis also paid tribute to the late John Virgo, who died at 79 earlier this year. "We're all very upset. It's not going to be the same without him," Davis said, recalling Virgo's iconic phrase 'where's the cue ball going?' and the void left in the commentary box.

The World Snooker Championship, featuring an open field with contenders like Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, and Neil Robertson, will be broadcast across BBC TV, radio, and online.
