Tottenham Consider £60m Move for Xavi Simons as Vuskovic Loan Talks Progress

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a £60m move for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons as they look to bolster their options behind the striker. The club have made progress in talks over a season-long loan for Luka Vuskovic to Hamburg, with no option to buy, expected to be finalised before Monday's deadline. Spurs are also looking to offload Yves Bissouma to Galatasaray after the 28-year-old fell out of favour under manager Thomas Frank due to repeated lateness.

Simons is a longstanding target for Chelsea, but their delay in making a bid may open the door for Tottenham, who are keen to add attacking depth after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze. With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski long-term injury casualties, Frank noted last Friday that he had only six available frontline players, including strikers. Spurs are also interested in Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche, Como's Nico Paz, and Manchester City's Savinho, though the latter is believed to be out of reach.

Vuskovic, an 18-year-old centre-half who joined Spurs this summer from Hajduk Split, impressed in pre-season with a goal and an assist against Reading. However, he is behind Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Kevin Danso in the pecking order, with Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies, and new signing Kota Takai also options. Hamburg, who won promotion back to the Bundesliga last season, have monitored Vuskovic throughout the summer.

Bissouma, a £25m signing from Brighton in 2022, played the full 90 minutes in last season's Europa League final victory over Manchester United. However, under Frank, he has been dropped from the squad for the European Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain and has not featured in Spurs' two Premier League matches due to an injury picked up in training. Frank criticised his timekeeping, stating, 'He has been late several times, the latest one too many.'
