Snooker World Championship Prize Money Rises to £3 Million

The World Snooker Championship and UK Championship are set for significant prize money increases from next season, with the World Championship total fund rising to £3 million. The champion in Sheffield will receive £625,000 by 2027, a 25% increase from the current £500,000, which has remained unchanged since 2019.

The UK Championship winner next season will earn £312,500, up from £250,000, with the overall prize fund climbing to £1.5 million from £1.2 million. A World Snooker Tour statement confirmed that similar increases will apply to each round, with full details to be announced soon.

Matchroom president Barry Hearn suggested that the winner's prize could reach £1 million by the time the World Championship returns to the Crucible after its planned renovation, set to begin in summer 2028. During the renovation, the event may be hosted elsewhere for one or two years.

Hearn named potential venues including Alexandra Palace, Excel, Olympia, Manchester, and Newcastle, and indicated a preference for keeping the championship in the UK. If it were to go abroad, he suggested Germany's Tempodrom as a suitable venue due to similar TV times and a capacity of 3,000.
