Mohamed Salah has insisted he will always love Liverpool as he prepares to bid farewell after nine years at the club. The forward, who won the Champions League and two Premier League titles among other honours, described his time at Anfield as a blessing and said he does not take it for granted.
This season has been the most frustrating of his tenure, with public comments reflecting tensions. In December, Salah claimed he had been 'thrown under the bus' after being benched and said his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down. Although the situation was patched up after the Africa Cup of Nations, the mutual decision to part ways with a year remaining on his contract suggested only a temporary truce.
In an LFC Original film, Salah said: 'The club means everything. The people mean everything, the city means everything. I will always love this club. I will always support it. It feels special. I’m blessed.'
Slot, meanwhile, dismissed suggestions that Salah’s recent criticism of the team’s style—calling for a return to 'heavy metal football'—had undermined him. 'I have not seen anything different compared to the rest of the season,' Slot said. 'The boys trained really well.'
The Dutchman also pointed out that Salah was happy with the style last season when they won the league, but noted football has evolved. 'We both want what is best for Liverpool,' Slot added. 'We have to find that right balance of still being able to compete but definitely also play the brand and style of football the fans want to see.'
