Séamus Coleman has announced he will leave Everton at the end of the season when his contract expires next month, bringing an end to his 17-year playing career at Goodison Park. The 37-year-old Republic of Ireland captain has been offered a coaching role by the club, but intends to continue playing elsewhere.
Manager David Moyes, who signed Coleman for £60,000 from Sligo Rovers in 2009, paid tribute to the defender's influence. 'He was the glue who just about kept it together,' Moyes said, praising Coleman's role during relegation battles under Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche.
Coleman has made 433 appearances for Everton, including a club record 372 in the Premier League. He will move into 10th place on the club's all-time appearance list if he plays in the final home game against Sunderland on Sunday, overtaking Dixie Dean and Leon Osman.
Coleman said he will take time over the summer to decide his future, adding: 'My love for Everton is something you all know about – and I've got a huge love for Ireland as well.' Moyes confirmed the coaching offer will remain open even if Coleman joins another club.
