Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has reportedly been offered a bumper deal to sign for Qatari side Al-Rayyan. The 26-year-old left Old Trafford as a free agent this summer after five years at the club.
Sancho's Next Move
According to Foot Mercato, Sancho remains on the hunt for a new challenge after loan spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa ended his disappointing chapter in the North West. Al-Rayyan are said to be keen to capitalise on his situation and secure a major signing as they aim to return to the summit of the Qatar Stars League for the first time since 2016.
Failed to Establish Himself
Sancho's exit was confirmed this summer, ending five years at United. The club had finally won the race to sign him from Borussia Dortmund after a transfer battle lasting over a year. The offer from Al-Rayyan provides a chance to relaunch his career after he failed to establish himself as a starter with Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Although used more off the bench for both Premier League sides, his loan stints were successful as he won the UEFA Conference League and Europa League titles.
Quiet on Social Media
Sancho has not posted since his departure from United was confirmed. The 23-time England international has been quiet on social media, with his most recent post celebrating the Europa League success with Villa. His relationship at United became fractured after a public feud with then-manager Erik ten Hag.
That social media outburst resulted in a four-month exile at United, where he was placed on a personal training programme away from the club. His exit was marked by just one paragraph in the retained list announcement.
Al-Rayyan's Ambitions
A move to Al-Rayyan could see Sancho link up with former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who netted five goals in 11 games after joining in September. The Qatar Stars League may not feature the standout names of the Saudi Pro League, but includes players like Pablo Sarabia, Krzysztof Piatek, and Roberto Firmino.
Al-Rayyan may look to strike a deal quickly as their season traditionally begins in early August and runs through mid-April. The Lions finished third last term, earning a place in Champions League Two, the Asian Football Confederation's second-tier competition.
