Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, posting an emotional video on Tuesday night to confirm the news. The Egyptian forward, who has spent nine years at Anfield, has won every major club trophy and scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, placing him third on Liverpool's all-time leading scorers list.
In a 129-second video posted to his social media feeds, Salah is seen sitting in front of his trophy cabinet. He says: 'Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.' He adds: 'Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit.'
Salah makes an emotional reference to his former teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident last summer at the age of 28. He thanks teammates and fans, saying: 'To the fans… the support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times, it's something I will never forget.'
The 33-year-old did not reveal his next destination, though he has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. He still has Champions League and FA Cup finals to play this season, with his final home game for Liverpool expected to be against Brentford on 24 May.
Liverpool FC confirmed the news on Instagram, stating: 'Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season.' The club added that a full celebration of his legacy will take place later in the year.
