Wrexham AFC, the Welsh club co-owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will have their first home game of the Championship season broadcast live on free-to-air television. The match against West Bromwich Albion at the Racecourse Ground on August 16 will be shown on ITV Sport at 12:30pm, as part of a joint coverage agreement with Sky Sports.
The fixture follows Wrexham's opening match away to Southampton on August 9, their first Championship game in 43 years after three consecutive promotions. The club has gained a global following thanks to the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary and on-field success.
Manager Phil Parkinson has been active in the transfer market, securing six new signings including striker Ryan Hardie, goalkeeper Danny Ward, and left-back Liberato Cacace. The club is also reportedly pursuing a record £7.5 million deal for Ipswich winger Nathan Broadhead.
Parkinson faces injury concerns ahead of the season opener, with midfielder Ollie Rathbone and January signing Jay Rodriguez both sidelined with ankle injuries. The manager hopes to have them back for the televised West Brom clash.
ITV will broadcast 20 EFL matches during the 2025/26 season, including 10 Carabao Cup ties and 10 Championship fixtures, as part of an agreement with Sky running until 2027.
