TV star 'spat on King Charles' in toe-curling first meeting

Channel 4 star Anna Williamson has revealed a cringe-worthy encounter with King Charles, admitting she accidentally spat pea risotto across his face during a reception at Highgrove. The Celebs Go Dating relationship expert shared the story on Joe Marler's podcast, Joe Marler Will See You Now, on Wednesday.

A Royal Mishap

Asked about her most embarrassing celebrity encounter, Williamson recounted the incident, explaining she was invited as a longstanding ambassador for the King's Trust. She told listeners: "One of them that springs to mind involves our monarch, the King."

Nerves got the better of her as she approached the monarch. She chuckled: "You can do a variety of things that are respectful, but I did all of them at one go: a curtsey, a bow, and a handshake. I then fell forward with the risotto, spat risotto in the King's face, curtseyed, but stumbled on the paving slab, fell into him, so he had to sort of push me back up again."

Keeping It Light

Despite the chaos, Williamson insisted the atmosphere remained relaxed. She noted: "Everyone was quite chilled. Fortunately, there's one person who can take the p*** out of myself, and that's me." The King, flanked by security, helped steady her. She laughed: "He did himself offer to collect me and stand me back up again with security, but it was how I broke the ice with the King."

Marler responded: "That was certainly a unique way of doing that."

From Kids' TV to Dating Expert

Williamson began her TV career in the 1990s as a children's presenter on CITV, Milkshake!, and Nickelodeon before moving into mainstream broadcasting. She has since become a prominent relationship expert on Celebs Go Dating and is also a mental health advocate.
