Ryan Giggs trial: Lockdown with ex was 'utter hell', court hears

Ryan Giggs' former girlfriend has told a court that living with the ex-Manchester United star during the first Covid lockdown was 'utter hell'. Kate Greville, 38, gave evidence on Tuesday at Manchester Crown Court, where the 48-year-old is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Ms Greville said she moved in with Giggs at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, after they rekindled their relationship. During lockdown, the couple took part in online quizzes and Zoom wine tastings, but Ms Greville said arguments arose, including over how to load the dishwasher. 'He was making me feel like I was stupid,' she told the court.

Under cross-examination by Giggs' barrister, Chris Daw QC, Ms Greville agreed that lockdown was a 'period of living hell'. She said: 'I felt like I was losing my mind. I was having panic attacks. It was a horrific time.'

The court also heard about a violent incident in a London hotel room in November 2020, where Ms Greville claims Giggs kicked her out of bed, threw a laptop bag at her head, and threw her naked from the room. She said Giggs later told her: 'Yes, but you wound me up that much you made me do it.'

Giggs denies all charges, including causing actual bodily harm and the common assault of Ms Greville's sister, Emma. The trial continues.
