Roy Keane has aimed a fresh dig at Michael Carrick's wife, Lisa, during a discussion on the Stick to Football podcast about Carrick's appointment as interim Manchester United manager. Keane said: 'His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn't do well], cause she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She's probably doing the team talk.'
The comments refer to a 2014 incident when Lisa Carrick criticised Keane on Twitter after he had questioned her husband's performance in a Champions League defeat to Olympiacos. She later deleted the tweet and apologised, saying: 'Emotions got the better of me.'
Carrick was confirmed as United's interim boss until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim's sacking. He previously managed three games in 2021 before joining Middlesbrough. His backroom staff includes Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate and Travis Binnion.
Keane also criticised the appointments of Evans and Woodgate, questioning their coaching credentials. 'What has Jonny Evans done to be a coach of Man United's first team?' he said. 'He left the job four weeks ago - loans manager, and ironically comes back working with the first team. That's a big step up, isn't it?'
