Rooney warns Arsenal should be 'scared' of Haaland after Man City comeback win over Liverpool

Wayne Rooney has warned Arsenal that Erling Haaland's return to form should be a 'scary' prospect after Manchester City's dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Liverpool at Anfield. The victory cut Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League to six points, with City having a game in hand.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, Rooney described the win as 'huge' for Pep Guardiola's side and 'deflating' for Arsenal, who had beaten Sunderland 3-0 earlier on Saturday. City trailed to Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning free-kick until Bernardo Silva equalised in the 80th minute, before Haaland scored an injury-time penalty to seal the win.

Rooney, a five-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, said: 'If they slipped nine points adrift of Arsenal it would have been very difficult for them to win the league. But the confidence and belief that will give them is huge.' He added that Arsenal players would have been watching the game at home and 'wasting energy hoping their rival slip up'.

On Haaland, who had not scored in the Premier League for a month before his winner, Rooney said: 'It's his first goal at Anfield for Man City and you could see the relief in his face. The confidence that will give him now will be scary for Arsenal in the next few weeks.'

City can cut Arsenal's lead to three points if they beat Fulham on Wednesday, while Arsenal face Brentford the following evening.
