Andy Robertson Agrees Tottenham Move After Emotional Liverpool Farewell
Robertson Set for Tottenham After Liverpool Exit

Andy Robertson is poised to join Tottenham this summer after playing his final game for Liverpool on Sunday. The Scotland international spoke emotionally about his departure following a 1-1 draw with Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season.

Robertson's Liverpool Legacy

Robertson joined Mohamed Salah in bowing out at Anfield, having announced in April that he would leave at the end of the season. He has been with the club since a move from Hull City in 2017 and will depart after nine years and 378 appearances for Liverpool.

Robertson leaves as a club legend, having been a key figure in Liverpool's Champions League and Premier League triumphs. However, he has been usurped by Milos Kerkez as first-choice left-back, and the club were open to selling him in January.

Tottenham Deal Agreed

Tottenham tried to sign Robertson in January but couldn't get a deal over the line. Liverpool were open to selling the 32-year-old to receive a fee before his contract expired, and Robertson held talks with Spurs, although it never materialised. However, it is understood that he has agreed personal terms with Spurs, who secured Premier League safety on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Everton, finishing 17th and sending West Ham down.

Robertson confirmed the interest: "There was obviously interest there - there were discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision made."

Emotional Farewell

Speaking after the match, Robertson told Sky Sports: "Emotionally drained. It's been a busy week trying to keep your emotions in check and saying bye to those you need to say bye to." He added: "These guys come and support us every single week. I've been here nine years and we've played in front of a sellout crowd at Anfield and full away ends every game."

Robertson reflected on his time at Liverpool, acknowledging the challenge posed by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City: "Pep Guardiola pushed us to new limits. We should have won more Premier Leagues if it wasn't for that man." He also praised Everton's Seamus Coleman, who is leaving the club: "Seamus Coleman is leaving Everton and he's been a fantastic servant for that football club."

Looking ahead, Robertson says he will focus on playing for Scotland at the World Cup this summer, while he did comment on a potential return to Liverpool in the future: "In years to come, then we know we're both welcome back to this football club. This is a big chapter in our book but it's not the end. First and foremost, we have to switch off and focus on the World Cup. I know this is our family and we'll be welcome back."
