The 1990s are often remembered fondly for music, TV, and a sense of optimism, but also for an array of iconic foods that filled our kitchens. Many of these products, often ultra-processed and convenience-focused, have since disappeared or become extremely rare. Here are 16 of the most memorable.
Findus Crispy Pancakes and Chocolate Cigarettes
Findus Crispy Pancakes, available since 1958, were a staple for generations. Known for their hot fillings like minced beef and distinctive breadcrumb coating, they vanished from shelves in 2019, only to return as Birds Eye Crispy Pancakes with new packaging and fillings.
Chocolate cigarettes, designed to mimic real cigarettes with 'lit' red tips, were marketed to kids in the 90s. While still available, the packaging no longer resembles cigarette packets.
TV Dinners and McCain Micro Chips
TV dinners in compartmentalised plastic trays were the ultimate convenience meal, offering a full dinner like beef in minutes. McCain Micro Chips, a 90s favourite, were rebranded as Quick Chips in 2016.
Turkey Twizzlers and Chicken Tonight
Turkey Twizzlers, launched in 1997, were discontinued in 2005 after Jamie Oliver's campaign highlighted their 34% meat content. A healthier version with 63% turkey returned in 2020 but lasted only until 2025. Chicken Tonight's Sizzle n Stir variant, advertised by Ian Wright, has long gone, though the brand remains.
Drinks and Cereals
Um Bongo, introduced in 1983, ceased production in 2003 but has seen revivals, now available at Iceland, Home Bargains, and Costco. Panda Pops, a fizzy drink favourite, was discontinued in 2011 after health concerns. Golden Grahams cereal, popular in the 90s, was axed in 2021 but returned in 2025, now found at discount retailers.
Biscuits and Crisps
Trio biscuits, famous for their catchy advert, were withdrawn in 2003 and returned in 2016, but are not consistently stocked. Brannigans crisps, known for bold flavours like Roast Beef and Mustard, were axed in 2020.
Restaurant Chains and Chocolate Bars
Little Chef, once ubiquitous with 439 restaurants in the mid-90s, had declined to 234 by 2005 and vanished by 2018. Wimpy, once with over 1,000 UK branches, now has only around 60. Breakaway chocolate biscuits were discontinued in 2024. Cadbury's Spira, launched in 1989, ended in 2005; despite fan campaigns, Cadbury's said it had 'no plans to bring back Spira'. Other lost bars include Drifter, Animal Bar, Mars Delight, and Caramac.

Kellogg's Ricicles, around since 1955, were discontinued in 2017 for health reasons. McCain stopped making frozen pizzas in the UK in 2012 due to falling sales.
