Manchester United's pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha could be thwarted by Newcastle United, who are preparing a bid for the 25-year-old. The Red Devils have been quiet on the transfer front in recent weeks, with only two first-team signings so far this summer.
Rival bid for target
United have already secured Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but the departure of Casemiro and an injury to Manuel Ugarte have left the midfield short. Nmecha, a Germany international, is seen as a potential reinforcement, but Dortmund are demanding €100 million (£85.8 million) for his signature.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Newcastle have opened talks with Nmecha's representatives and are readying a bid. The Magpies are looking for a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is close to a £75 million move to Arsenal.
Disagreement over next signing
Internal disputes at Old Trafford may be hindering progress on a third midfield signing. Director of recruitment Christopher Vivell has urged the club to pursue AS Roma's Manu Kone, but sporting director Jason Wilcox is not convinced, according to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs said on the United Stand that both Wilcox and head coach Michael Carrick prefer a signing with Premier League experience, similar to Tielemans and Santos. United have been linked with Bournemouth's Alex Scott, but it remains unclear if another midfield acquisition will be completed before the window closes.
