Marcus Rashford's future remains uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches, with the Manchester United forward currently on loan at Barcelona. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a productive spell in Spain, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances, and has expressed a desire to stay at the Camp Nou beyond this season.
Barcelona hold an option to make the move permanent for around £26 million, but reports suggest the Catalan club may attempt to renegotiate the fee or pursue a second loan deal. Sky Germany has indicated Barcelona are keen to keep Rashford but are pushing for another loan, while the Manchester Evening News reports that United will reject any further loan offers and insist on the £26m fee being paid in full.
United's interim manager Michael Carrick, a former teammate of Rashford, stated that no final decision has been made. 'There's decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation. But at this point in time, nothing's been decided,' Carrick said earlier this month.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has praised Rashford's impact, saying: 'Marcus is performing very well with assists and goals. We will try, in Barca's interest, to ensure that Marcus can continue.' However, if a deal cannot be reached, Rashford could return to Old Trafford, especially after United parted ways with former manager Ruben Amorim earlier this season.
Should Barcelona fail to secure Rashford permanently, the forward is likely to attract interest from other clubs. The Manchester Evening News reports that United would be confident of recouping around £50m for the academy product, with Juventus, Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all tentatively linked. A strong World Cup performance could further inflate his value.
