Rangers Claim Top Spot in Scottish Premiership After Two-Year Wait
Rangers have surged to the top of the Scottish Premiership for the first time in more than two years, securing a 4-2 victory over Dundee United at Ibrox. Goals from Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, Thelo Aasgaard, and substitute Bojan Miovski propelled the Gers to the summit, overcoming efforts from Dundee United's Amar Fatah and Zac Sapsford.
Manager Rohl Emphasises Front-Foot Approach
Danny Rohl, who took over as Rangers manager in October when the team trailed Hearts by 13 points, emphasised the need for his side to remain aggressive. "I was really surprised this is the first time we've been top in two years," Rohl stated. "But the most important thing is that we still have the right mindset. Even now we are top, we have to stay as the hunter. We have to be on the front foot and if we win six games then we will have something at the end of the season."
Rangers now lead Hearts on goal difference with six matches remaining, though Hearts have an opportunity to reclaim the top position when they face Livingston on Sunday. Meanwhile, Celtic, positioned third and five points behind their Old Firm rivals, are set to play Dundee at Dens Park later the same day.
Rohl's Media Blackout Strategy
In a bid to maintain focus, Rohl revealed he will avoid following other matches on Sunday. "I will do the same as the last matchday. I put my phone off, no ticker, no live score," he explained. This approach comes after recent instances where Hearts and Celtic dropped points while Rangers were not in action, potentially benefiting the Gers' title aspirations.
Hibernian and Falkirk Strengthen Top-Six Positions
Elsewhere in the Premiership, Hibernian bolstered their European qualification hopes with a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock at Easter Road. Owen Elding and Felix Passlack scored early goals, followed by a late strike from substitute Ante Suto, moving Hibs within three points of fourth-placed Motherwell.
Falkirk secured a top-six finish for the first time in 31 years with a 3-2 victory at Motherwell. Barney Stewart's early header set the tone, with Ben Broggio and Calvin Miller adding goals to ensure the Bairns' place in the upper half of the table.
Relegation Battle Intensifies
In the lower reaches of the league, St Mirren defeated Aberdeen 2-0 at St Mirren Park, with Jonah Ayunga and Alex Gogic scoring to lift the Buddies level on points with Aberdeen. Kilmarnock remain in the relegation playoff spot, three points behind St Mirren and Aberdeen, highlighting the tight competition at the bottom of the table.
As the season approaches its climax, Rangers' resurgence under Rohl adds a thrilling dynamic to the title race, with key fixtures ahead determining the final standings.
