Rangers have ended their search for a new manager by appointing Danny Röhl on an initial two-and-a-half-year contract. The 36-year-old German will take charge immediately, starting with Thursday's Europa League clash against SK Brann.
Röhl had previously ruled himself out of contention last week when Rangers were in advanced talks with Kevin Muscat. However, those negotiations collapsed, and Muscat joined Steven Gerrard in withdrawing from the role. Gerrard remains unemployed, while Muscat has stayed with Shanghai Port.
The Ibrox hierarchy then turned back to Röhl, despite initial concerns over fan reaction to his potential appointment. Vice-chairman Paraag Marathe said: 'This has been a thorough process to ensure we identified the right person to lead the club forward.'
Röhl expressed his excitement at the challenge, stating: 'It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of head coach at such an incredible club. I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions. The expectations are huge and I love this challenge.'
Röhl's only previous managerial role was at Sheffield Wednesday, which he left in the summer amid off-field turmoil. He was close to landing the Rangers job then, but the club opted for Russell Martin, who lasted just 123 days before being sacked over two weeks ago.
