Prince Harry will be supporting the England squad as they face Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals in Miami. The Duke of Sussex is presumably relishing the international tournament taking place in his newly adopted home in the United States following his relocation with his young family across the Atlantic in 2020.
Harry moved away with his wife, Meghan Markle, with the family initially staying in Canada and California. The family — which includes son Archie and daughter Lilibet — have now established themselves in southern California, with the couple having stepped back from Royal duties at the time of their departure. Prince Harry formally changed his primary place of residence in 2024 after they left their UK home of Frogmore Cottage.
Meghan's Father's Day Tribute Shows England Pride
Most recently, Meghan posted a touching Father's Day tribute featuring Harry's two children embracing their father with the caption: "They're so lucky to have you. We all are. Happy Father's Day to our one and only." In the photograph, son Archie can be seen sporting a red-and-white T-shirt with 'England World Cup' emblazoned on the back. This intimate snapshot demonstrates that Harry's heritage remains proudly celebrated within their household.
Harry Refuses to Say 'Football's Coming Home'
However, one matter the Prince refuses to admit is whether football is 'coming home'. The well-known phrase has been chanted for years at major tournaments featuring England, with supporters singing 'football's coming home' to spur the team towards triumph. Yet Prince Harry refuses to say it, according to former Irish rugby star Brian O'Driscoll.
Speaking in 2018 at a garden reception for the Royals — while the Duke of Sussex remained actively engaged in family duties — the ex-rugby player recalled: "I asked him, 'So, is football coming home?' But he refused to say it. I think he just said he isn't as confident as everyone else about England winning tomorrow. He said he won't say it because he doesn't want to jinx it."
The occasion occurred the day before England's devastating semi-final defeat to Croatia at the World Cup 2018, when they fell to a 2-1 loss in extra time.
Prince Harry Returns to England for Invictus Games Commemoration
Prince Harry has returned to England this week to commemorate one year until the Invictus Games 2027. It was originally planned that Meghan and their two children would join him, though it remains uncertain whether Harry was accompanied by his family. The Duke of Sussex had previously expressed concerns regarding police protection for his family in the UK, but it is understood that Meghan and their two youngsters were meant to be included in the travelling party.
A spokesman for the Prince said last week: "The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK."
